The squat gray box had been kicked out of my house after my father got addicted to Mario, and so I only got to see it on the rare occasions that I stayed over with my grandparents. It had quite a game library, too, since my mother had bought the console originally to play a few RPGs.One of the games in the library was Final Fantasy.I didn't really understand it at first. I'd load my inventory up with armor and then be puzzled when spiders took down my team with ease. I'd buy tons of weapons, but no one's damage would increase. I was utterly convinced that Blackbelts were the only good class in the game.After a few lukewarm experiences with getting murdered by imps in the woods, I decided to leave it alone. I played Megaman and Star Tropics and had a grand time while it gathered dust on the shelf. Until one day when something finally clicked."Equip screen?" I wondered. "What's that about?"What followed was an afternoon of the weirdest, most serene bliss I had ever felt.Now, I tell that story because it's the easiest way to describe the effect that Artifact Adventure had on me when I booted it up. From the first menu, I felt like I had somehow stumbled back into that same insulating bubble of warmth and sound and small cups of instant butterscotch pudding. I don't usually like the nostalgia games market, but I'll make an exception for any game that can make me feel like I'm back in my grandmother's old house again.I'm not sure I can do an unbiased review for this game, but if you ever had similar experiences, you might want to give Artifact Adventure a try.. I really love this game, even though it was made on rpg maker, there is just a little problem not big, just that you can not fullscreen, wtich is not a big, deal but i would say at least try the game, cause i like it alot.. This game is the greatest thing since nestalgia!. It's rad! I've been dying for something old school yet fresh! This game has a simple and neat premise, setting, classes, somewhat sandboxish, and feels very balanced. The art is great, the music is great, the game is clever. I recommend to anyone who likes casual RPGs, JRPGs, old school RPGs. Artifact Adventure 2?. Artifact Adventure is a love song to NES era RPGS of old. You'll recognize the tunes, you'll remember the sprites and the tile sets, you'll relive the journey through the caves and push forward to get that one last treasure before the long trek back out the cave. You'll cheer as you roll a critical hit at just the right moment, and you'll cry as your last hero falls to a random encounter. You already know what to expect from just the screenshots... but the game is so much deeper than that. Artifact Adventure is a simple tale of four heroes who journey the lands, building strength and helping others on their quest to kill the Evil Swamp King. The game has been available on Playism for a while, but just released on steam where it makes good company among the other retro-indie inspired JRPGS. The game has the "hook" of choice. Something that's familiar to many fans of modern RPGs like Dragon Age or The Witcher; choice is a large element of this game. However, the choices don't lead you down a "good" or "bad" ending.. but instead open you up to over 70 different endings in the game. Choices are varied enough to make each town and each event interesting.Do you tell the old man his son is dead, or soften the blow with a white lie? Do you help some stranger poison a guard to steal a relic, at a great profit to you - or protect the relic and secure the town's future. These choices matter, and have a lasting impact on the world. A rarity in this type of game. Also, not all choices are black and white, with choices having impacts you don't immediately realize. The first choice given to you is by the king. He asks you to pick between an airship, powerful magics, and the Key of Time. Once you make your choice, you are locked out from the others. This is just a taste of the choice system included in this game. Truly a treat. There is no "right" choice, and its not a binary one. You have three options, which is actually pretty common in this game. You can even choose not to choose... something i'm exceptionally pleased to see in a game. Conclusion: If you love NES era JRPGS, Christmas came early this year. If you prefer high graphics hold-your-hands style gameplay with quest logs and high quality cinematics, move along, this won't be your jam. Artifact aventure is like the best of 8-16 bit dragon quest striped down to the core, gaining freedom of choice (obscure - and consequences), challenge (and death or you can litterally give up on your quest).Rapid game progression, sane random encounter rate, 8bit glory. All in iron man modeThe worst so far is granting unique magic abilities to mana-devoid characters. What a waste, and very little clue to avoid it.Full of fun otherwise.I love it.. As for those who would lend you a hand, inside the castle, the people most likely to help you out would be... First off is “Rex”. Known by many names, such as the world’s greatest adventurer, explorer, and traveler, he has been all around the world and is experienced in almost every area on the continent. Due to his extensive travels, he’s also quite experienced with the spider nests created by fiends.Having Rex accompany you on your journey is sure to make things much easier. Next is the greatest knight of our kingdom, “Roland”. The most skilled swordsman in the world, he also has the most noble spirit of any knight. Amazingly quick with his blade, having him on your team will make dealing with fiends a cinch.Traveling together with Roland will afford you all sorts of experiences, too. Next is the royal who has heeded his country’s call to arms, “Hershal”. Noble, thoughtful of the people, and extremely trustworthy, Hershal's power is not one which will help necessarily with your journey itself. To put it bluntly, he’ll likely even hold you back. There’s no real reason to choose Hershal, but there is one thing he has that will certainly prove useful. That would be cash. Blessed with the huge amount of resources Hershal possesses, you’ll have no trouble with finances on your adventure. These three are well known throughout the kingdom.They have wisdom, abilities, and resources like no other.They are all extremely capable of contributing to the kingdom and your mission.
